Stump Grinding FAQ

Have a question? Chances are we've answered it below. If not, contact us directly.

How much does stump grinding cost?

Pricing starts at $200 and varies based on stump size, accessibility, and the number of stumps. We provide free, no-obligation estimates so you know the exact cost before we start.

How deep does stump grinding go?

We grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below ground level. This is deep enough for planting grass, laying sod, or starting new landscaping projects.

How long does stump grinding take?

Most single stumps take 30 to 60 minutes. Larger stumps or those in tight spaces may take longer. We'll give you a time estimate during our assessment.

Do you haul away the grindings?

We leave the wood chips on-site since they make excellent free mulch. If you'd prefer we haul them away, just let us know and we can arrange that.

Is stump grinding safe near my fence or house?

Yes. Our equipment is designed for precision work, and we regularly grind stumps close to fences, foundations, sidewalks, and other structures without causing damage.

What's the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

Stump grinding uses a machine to chip the stump below ground level, leaving the roots to decompose naturally. Stump removal involves digging out the entire root ball, which is more invasive, more expensive, and leaves a larger hole. Grinding is the preferred method for most residential and commercial situations.

Do I need to be home during the job?

Not necessarily. As long as we can access the stump and the estimate has been approved, we can complete the work while you're away. We'll send you before and after photos.

Can you grind stumps of any size?

Yes. We handle everything from small ornamental tree stumps to large hardwood stumps over 36 inches in diameter. No stump is too big or too small.

Will the roots keep growing after grinding?

No. Once the stump is ground below the soil line, the root system will gradually decompose over time. You won't see any regrowth from the main trunk.
